Patient Choices
Your health – Your choice.
As a patient, you have the right to choose when and where you go to hospital.
Whether it’s a check-up with a specialist or open-heart surgery, you have the power to decide what hospital you visit and at what time, based on a list of both private and NHS hospitals that all meet NHS standards.

How do I choose a hospital?
You can look through a list of hospitals all over the country by visiting the NHS Choices website.
NHS Choices is designed to help you make decisions - not just about which hospital you visit, but on everything from lifestyle choices such as smoking, drinking and exercising to finding a specific NHS service.
When choosing where to be treated you can read other patients’ reviews and even compare the hospital’s cleanliness, reputation and waiting lists.
It’s your choice.
I’ve chosen my hospital, how do I book an appointment?
Your doctor will be able to tell you about ‘Choose and Book’, a system that lets you select your own appointment date and time, at the hospital of your choice.
After discussing your options with your doctor, he or she will give you an appointment booking form that you can either fill in on the day, or take home with you.
You then send the completed form off to your chosen hospital to be confirmed.
With Choose and Book, you can make appointments at a time and place to suit you, so you no longer have to make special travel, childcare or work arrangements. Your healthcare is in your hands.
