Work has begun on a £1.82 million state of the art GP surgery in Sheffield, as part of the city’s plan to revolutionise healthcare.
The New White House Surgery on Harborough Avenue, Manor, is set to replace the current White House Surgery on Prince of Wales Road, benefiting patients in the area with improved facilities such as more consultation rooms and a dedicated minor operations room.
Ken Staniland, Practice Manager at the White House Surgery said: “We are very excited about our new premises. It is going to be a modern development with a curved steel roof, located over two floors – which means there will be a lot more space and better facilities for patients and staff.
“In our existing surgery we have only seven consulting rooms – but in the new building we will have 11, a minor operations room plus counselling and interview rooms. The District Nursing Team will also be based at the practice.”
“As White House Surgery is renowned for the training of doctors who wish to become GPs, the New White House Surgery will provide top quality training facilities such as meeting and seminar rooms for the use of trainees, GP registrars, house officers and medical students.”
The development marks a step forward for healthcare in Sheffield, bringing services closer to patient’s homes and eliminating the need to travel to hospital for routine procedures such as skin tag or mole removals.
Counselling provisions will also be available for patients, providing the opportunity for patients to speak in confidence with fully trained counsellors in the comfort of their local GP practice.
White House Surgery is part of the Central Sheffield GP Consortium a group of 27 practices across the City who are working together to provide improved access to better healthcare services for people in the inner city.
By bringing healthcare services into GP Practices around the city, patients can gain quicker access to treatment and care on their doorstep.
Paul Wike, lead manager of the Central GP Consortium said: “We are delighted that the construction of the New White House Surgery has got underway.
“The development marks the beginning of a much improved healthcare service for patients in the area and also takes us one step closer towards the consortiums goal of providing the people of Sheffield with healthcare and treatment closer to home”
